Hello, my name is Margot.

Welcome to my journal of stories about decorating and design, personal style and designing a creative career in the digital era. Oh, and there'll be some chocolate and gin, too.

I know, I know, you have no idea what Lixil Brands is. Well, it's simple, you actually already know and love Lixil Brands by their more familiar names American Standard, DXV and Grohe.

These brands are makers of many great things for kitchen and bath. Exhibit A is this new DXV console sink called the Lowell. It's a real looker with tapered solid oak legs capped with brushed metal ferules and side rails wrapped in luscious leather. And that toilet! All hail the enclosed trapway I say β€” so sleek, so easy to clean. (The stylist in me appreciates that the toilet tank is curved, thus discouraging the placement of accessories on top. Never "style" a toilet.). I spied these items at the recent Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Orlando, Fla last week. Pop back to the blog in the coming weeks for lots more news from the show.

OK, so back to A Morning with Lixil Brands.

The event this Friday morning is a panel discussion entitled Ten Things NOT to Do When Pitching An Editor. I'll be joining noted Toronto journalist and all around design gadfly Vicky Sanderson and Modenus and BlogTour founder Veronika Miller to get into the nitty gritty of this topic. For my pregaming I'll be getting in touch with how I felt when I first spotted that cover above. This is the April 2001 issue of STYLE AT HOME and that's my bedside table on the cover. Our home was included in the issue's Small Spaces feature and to say it was life changing is putting it mildly. At the time our place was shot I was working at a fashion & beauty mag. My career switch to shelter mags followed soon after, including 9 years at STYLE AT HOME and 4 at HOUSE & HOME. During that time I have been on all sides of the #GetPublished issue -- nervous, excited homeowner, design editor, stylist, designer, pitch person. I look forward to sharing my insights at the event.

Please join us!
